Sweet little Pumpkin!

Updated: Apr 11

Hi everyone, i'm Pumpkin and I came to Hopeful Hounds in February 2024 to begin my rescue journey!

The Hopeful Hounds team have known me since I was a little puppy because my previous owners were working with the team at Holistic Hounds for some training when they first got me. I am now a 3 year old Patterdale Terrier and if you know anything about my breed, you'll know we're pretty high energy and sassy little dogs! My previous owners had to rehome me as they weren't able to give me the time and training that I needed even though they'd done as much as they could and had tried really hard to fulfill what I needed. So they got in touch with the Hopeful Hounds team and I came in for rehoming at the start of February 2024 to begin my training journey.

I am a very typical terrier and have a high prey drive and a big personality in a small body! My biggest issue when I first came to the team was that I really didn't know how to be calm and came across reactive towards dogs, other animals and some other moving objects that I just wanted to chase all the time. I am also a pretty nervous little girl and I find meeting new dogs a little scary as well as being left alone and would often whine when people were getting ready to leave and get a bit snappy with dogs coming into my space when I am not comfortable. So the team started off by teaching me how to be calm and grow my confidence both around some of my triggers but also to help me to be an overall more confident girl.

I also started getting some training to help me to learn how to manage my emotions instead of barking at everything that made me uncomfortable. I took to the training really quickly and it wasn't long before I was showing off what a wonderful young lady I really was and enjoyed all the training and one to one time I was getting. I started going to group walks with the team at Holistic Hounds to work around other well trained dogs and I really enjoyed it! I was great around all the other dogs and even managed really well when other less well trained dogs kept trying to say hello and make friends with me.

Here I am out on some group walks being a superstar!

I am much more confident now i've had some one to one training with the team and have been doing lots of socialisation with their dogs and other well behaved dogs to keep growing my confidence with other dogs which I am doing so well with. I am pretty shy with dogs I don't know very well but am more than happy to meet other dogs calmly and do my own thing if I don't want to play with them after just meeting them. I absolutely LOVE my crate and find it such a relaxing and enjoyable place to be! I love coming back from my walks and having a snooze in my crate or chilling out there if there are other dogs around so I feel more safe and comfortable and the Hopeful Hounds team have taught me that if I choose to go into my crate, I won't be bothered by any strangers or dogs so I know I have a really safe space to relax in if I want to be alone.

Here I am making some new friends!

What kind of home am I looking for?

I am looking for a home where I can be a much loved member of the family going on lots of long walks, doing training and snuggling on the sofa! I am a high energy, sassy little lady so I need a family who are willing to continue my training, take me for nice walks and fulfill my needs both physically and mentally. I would love to do some sort of sport work too if my new owners were up for it as I am such a playful girl and I love working with my handler and doing something fun together! The Hopeful Hounds team think I would be good at something like agility, flyball or lure racing where I can really have some fun, let off some steam and do what terriers were born to do! However, if my new family aren't a fan of doing sport work, I would be more than happy with just some long walks and some at home training like learning new tricks and doing brain games to keep my body and mind happy and healthy.

My restrictions

I am a little nervous of children and find them a bit scary so I would rather be rehomed to a family with older children at least over the age of 11 who are good with dogs and will be respectful of me and my boundaries. I am also a very typical, high prey drive terrier and so I am not great with cats and small animals! I am currently living safely with outdoor rabbits but I do need to be supervised to make sure I don't try to chase and scare them but I would rather not have cats or other small animals living in the same house as me as it will be stressful for both them and me. I am more than happy to live with another dog but would prefer a calmer, respectful dog that will help me grow my confidence in my own time and not jump all over me and be in my face a lot.

If you like me, get in touch!

The Hopeful Hounds team are really excited to find me my perfect forever home so if you think you could give me the perfect home that I am looking for, get in touch!
